ARCHITECTURE

THE VEIL 1st Place
SS 23

A collaboration between HS Bochum and THE BODY SHOP Germany/Austria resulted in the development of a novel shop concept that incorporates cutting-edge technology and redefines the concept of space.

SOME OF MY

PROJECTS

SS 24
FREMDKOERPER  BACHELOR-THESIS

The "Fremdkörper" project transforms an existing building at the Kokerei Hansa in Dortmund into a HipHop Academy. It preserves the building's historical essence while integrating HipHop's bold spirit through new red perforated metal volumes and an external staircase. Flexible spaces and strategic thermal renovations ensure functionality and energy efficiency, revitalizing the building and honoring its past.

THE HILL
SS 23

The project aims to further explore the possibilities of 3D printing while focusing on the material of earth. The central concept revolves around designing a pavilion for the IGA 2027, utilizing the potential of 3D printing technology and highlighting the characteristics of earth as a construction material.

SURVIVOR
WS 22/23

The objective of this project was to design a research station located just off the coast of Venice, Italy. The station is designed to be timeless and enduring, serving as a beacon of overcoming the challenges of time while fulfilling its primary purpose of studying and learning to live with the ever-changing climate.

MIKADO
WS 23/24

The aim of this project was to explore new opportunities for sustainable building within the framework of the circular economy. The project is situated in Molenbeek, Belgium, a district of Brussels that has historically been marked by its socio-economic challenges. It focuses on the revitalization of a block through the construction of a 100% modular building made of scaffolding and containers, utilizing sustainable and recycled materials.

REDBOX
WS 23/24

As part of the final projects in the Bachelor's program at Bochum University of Applied Sciences, there is the "Structural Design Project" aimed at the comprehensive planning of a building. RedBOX explores the possibilities of sustainable precast concrete construction with a focus on energy overproduction and minimal incorporation of building technology, while giving due consideration to economic aspects. Topics such as EU Taxonomy, CRREM, ESG, and funding opportunities are also addressed within this framework.

UPLIFT
WS 23/24

Located at Bergmannstraße 23, Gelsenkirchen, this property is one of the so-called "problem properties" of the city. In collaboration with the "UMBAULABOR," the aim is to conduct a deep dive into the history, issues, and potential of the building, culminating in a comprehensive renovation with a new, fresh, and contemporary living concept.

B.O.A.T.
SS 22

The goal of this project was to create a new building for the faculty of architecture at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Situated next to the historic harbor of Duisburg, I incorporated the timeless form of a boat, contemporary architectural design elements and cutting-edge technologies to design a structure that will inspire and motivate students.

HEXENHAUS
WS 21/22

This project was shaped by its idyllic Alpine setting and traditional architectural style. The aim was to design a boarding school for children and teenagers, drawing inspiration from the natural, dynamic growth of interconnected settlements, and incorporating minimalistic building designs.

PRIVATE

PROJECTS

GRYNER

One of my most recent personal projects was the development and release of my first app on the App Store earlier this year. The idea for the app stemmed from my personal interest in environmental conservation and sustainability. Upon realizing that there was no app available for people to easily track their CO2 emissions in real-time, akin to how some track their calorie intake or expenses, I decided to fill this gap.

The app provides users with an intuitive interface to input their daily activities and automatically calculates their CO2 emissions. Users can precisely see how their choices impact their carbon footprint.

EAR

EAR (Experimenting with AR) evolved from a university course project into a deeper exploration of Augmented Reality (AR) within architecture and beyond. Initially designed to visualize objects for future production, it now investigates AR's potential in displaying art and exhibitions affordably and flexibly. Given the increasing interest in Spatial Computing from both industry and society, EAR is tapping into the future possibilities of AR, especially on mobile devices. As a work in progress, this project reflects a commitment to innovation and the exploration of AR's expanding capabilities.

ABOUT ME

My name is Timo Nikisch, and I am 23 years old. I recently completed my Bachelor of Science in Architecture at Bochum University of Applied Sciences in the summer semester of 2024. Starting this September, I will be pursuing a master's degree at UDK & TU Berlin in "Design & Computation", an interdisciplinary program focused on research. In this program, I will be working in the field of Human-Machine-Space Interaction, an exciting new research area that I will be opening up.

Outside of my academic pursuits, I work at Syte, a dynamic AI startup based in Münster, Germany. At Syte, our focus is on automating and optimizing the identification of development potentials, aiming to streamline densification, renovations, and expansions. Currently, I am deeply involved in enhancing and automating detailed analyses and assessments of development potentials.

One of my key strengths lies in my unwavering dedication to my projects. Beyond my academic and professional responsibilities, I actively seek new challenges, initiate fresh projects, and explore diverse hobbies and interests. From a keen interest in espresso to designing furniture using 3D printing, learning programming languages, and developing my first app, my enthusiasm for learning, exploring, and creating continuously propels me forward.
